The castle of Compiègne was the autumn residence of Emperor Napoleon III. The forest of Compiègne is one of the most famous and the second largest forest in France, and it is also the place where the armistices for both World Wars were signed.

How to get to Compiègne

Compiegne is situated 60 km north-east of Paris, with which it has regular railway connections from Paris Gare du Nord station (more info below).

By plane

The closest airport to Compiègne is Charles de Gaulle (CDG) international airport, which has flights from all around the world. From the airport there are two ways to reach Compiègne:

  • By taxi.

  • By train.

    It is needed first to take the train shuttle RER B from CDG to Paris Gare du Nord station (duration: 25minutes, frequency: 15minutes during the week, cost: 9,50 euro) and then, to take a regular train from Paris Gare du Nord station to Compiègne (duration 40 to 50 minutes, frequency: 2 trains per hour, cost: 14 euro).

Also the Airport of Beauvais, is close to Compiègne, about 60 km. Several low cost companies propose flights to this airport.

By car

Coming from south, Compiègne is on the freeway A1 (Direction Lille) at exit n°9 (Compiègne Sud).

Transportation inside Compiègne

Public buses are free in Compiègne. Several lines serve the conference location from the city center. A general map of the buses lines and the corresponding timetables can be find here. The stop is, depending on the line, Centre de Recherches or Guy Denielou. The trip takes between 15mn to 30mn from the railway station depending on the line. The quickest bus is #5.
